Golden State Gymnasts dominate in the Olympic Oval

Just over a month after Golden State Gymnastics surprised the California gymnastics community by claiming two state championship titles and numerous top finishings at the USA Gymnastics State Championships they made their mark in Utah.

Competing under the Olympic Rings at the 2008 Crystal Cup, Golden State topped the field with record-setting scores, and their efforts could not have been recognized in a more significant environment.

Competing at the Olympic Oval, the gymnasts tumbled, leaped, and balanced in the same arena as countless Olympians.

Two Golden State Gymnasts claimed 4 of the 5 top event scores of the entire 3-day, 244-competitor competition:

Rose Quzada, 9, with 9.8 on vault, 9.85 on beam, and an unprecedented 38.875 all-around.

Isis Glaude, 8, of Burbank, with 9.725 on floor.

Additionally, Quezada earned 9.625 on bars, while Glaude scored 9.75 on balance beam, 9.5 on vault, and 9.175 on bars for an incredible all-around score of 38.15.

Danielle Levy, 12, of Burbank topped the level 6 field by winning the vault (9.25), bars (8.9), beam (9.55), and all-around (36.50).

Sarah Higuera, 9, won both the vault (8.8) and bars (9.3) titles, while teammates Katie Connor, 11, of Burbank, and Tina Mirzakhanian, 13, shared the first place all-around title.

Allyson Jessen
,10, of Burbank,scored 9.7's on beam and floor, 9.525 on bars, and 9.45 on vault, for a huge 38.375

Kayla Anderson, 8, scored 9.55 on beam, 9.5 on floor, and 36.6 all-around.

Emma O'Mara, 8, of Burbank, scored 9.6 on vault, 9.575 on beam, 9.475 on floor, and 37.85 all-around

Emma Bailey, 8, of Burbank scored a 9.55 on vault, 9.3 on floor, and 36.95 all-around

In the end, Golden State Gymnastics left Utah with the first place team trophy and a total of 20 Gold Medals in tow.

Upon returning to Burbank, the gymnasts immediately began preparing for the next competitions.

On Jan. 25-27, Golden State will test their abilities against a field of over 1,000 competitors at the San Diego Classic before leaving for Reno, Nevada to compete at the nationally-renowned Starz and Stripes Invitational on Presidents' Day weekend.

The season will culminate with the hosting of the Golden State Gymnastics Friendship Challenge. Taking place at the Burbank Airport Hilton March 1-2, Golden State with host a tremendous field of USAG Artistic Gymnasts, USAIGC athletes, and special olympians from all over the country.
