Burbank Tarheels take second

The Burbank Tarheels fifth-sixth grade basketball team represented Burbank well in the recently completed Southern California Municipal Athletic Federation Tournaments held March 12-16 and March 30- April 1st in the city of Pasadena.

The Tarheels qualified for the tournaments by taking first place in their Burbank Park and Recreation League. They advanced to the state tournament with wins in the San Gabriel tournament over Monterey Park, Glendora, and the city of Azusa before being defeated in the championship game by a tough host Pasadena team.

In the State Tournament also hosted by Pasadena, the Tarheels again got to the Championship game with tough victories over Cudahay, 27-23, Inglewood, 27-26, and Norco 26-20.

And guess who the Tarheels again met in the finals thats right Pasadena, The Tarheels played Pasadena tough but Pasadena's size and strength finally took their toll on the smaller Tarheel team.

Pasadena winning the title by a score of 40-28.

"The Burbank team's Coaches and Parents are very proud of our great team. They played very hard and very well and represented themselves as the champions that they are!" The Tarheels were one of the few Cities in the two tournaments that was not an All-Star team.

The Burbank Team finished with an overall season record of 18 wins and only the two losses to Pasadena. The members of the 2007 Burbank Tarheels team include: Levi Beckwith, Jimmy Cramer, Austyn Dries, Austan Kaufman, Dylan Mersola, Carlos Mier, Jason Monsalve, Kyle Roberts, Kalen Verhoeven, and Lawrence White. The team was coached by Mike Graceffo, Ken Bailey, Kevin Roberts, Jordan Kaufman, and Fred Orr.
