Blowing smoke
Contributed by: stan hymen on 2/17/2007

In Eric Cap's February 15, 2007article he claims that Burbank's Mayor Todd Campbell debunked misleading statements made by Councilman Dr. Gordon. Nothing could be further from the truth. Dr. Gordon said " there is no evidence of outdoor secondhand smoke being harmful."Campbell claimed he had outdoor smoking studies and invited Dr. Gordon to review them. Dr. Gordon asked Campbell to make the studies available to him and Campbell said he would. As of this date and two requests from Dr. Gordon to Mayor Campbell for his claimed outdoor smoking studies nothing has been forthcoming from Burbank's make believe environmental mayor.

It would certainly seem reasonable that if Mayor Campbell has such great scientific evidence he woould copy it and deliver it to everyone. He didn't do that he only talked about some friend of his and how she has all the answers. I saw the meeting and he was pathetic in his so called information.

The two largest and most comprehensive studies ever produced could find no evidence of Second Hand Smoke being hazardous: -- The 1998 World Health Organization's study that lasted for seven years could find no evidence. -- The results of a study by Enstrom and Kabat, an analysis covering 39 years, appeared in the British Medical Journal in 2003 - no evidence. And these studies were for indoor Second Hand Smoke, not hugely diluted outdoor smoke.
