Ethical dilemmas at the Burbank Council
Contributed by: Alfred Aboulsaad on 8/27/2006

If anyone caught the discussion of the Burbank City Council goals last week you might have caught Dr. David Gordon explaining why the city government should get out of such messy situations like affordable housing, helping non-profits and funding conflict resolution courses in public schools.

Instead of using our hard earned tax dollars on potentially liable situations as those mentioned above, why not "focus" our funds on intersections like those specifically near Dr. Gordon's own Optometry practice? There was no missing it, he used the word focus, then mentioned 2 intersections immediately surrounding his Optometry practice.

Is this the high level of honesty that his most ardent supporters like Eric Cap and Eden Rosen wanted in a sitting council member? Maybe 4 years from now when Dr. Gordon's legacy will be a great drive from his home to work then the other 66 percent of Burbank, you know the ones who voted against Dr. Gordon can get back to city actions that help us all.

Dear, dear Carl. It's not a matter of Alfred being part of a secret plot. It's the continued ignorance he displays in attacking Gordon as well as Eden Rosen and Eric Cap. All of this to insure he stays in favor with the council majority. He enjoys being part of the Burbank Bootlicking Brigade which has set out to further erode our rights with the ludicrous proposals contained in the Charter Review Committee recommendations. Who needs secret plots? It's right there in black and white.

This comes along just when I thought this forum was going to be swarmed by the conspiracy fruitcakes, the same way they've made council meetings and the Burbank Leader hostile and miserable territory for reasonable and honest people. Nice to see SOMEONE will try to hold Gordon to the standards he twists to beat up everyone else. I's no big surprise that his campaign manager was hot on the trail to clarify and spin what the councilman said. I hope Alfred knows he's now going to be ripped up in public by a very familiar bunch who will "reveal" to the world how he's part of the many secret plots they see.

Perhaps Alfred should listen to what is being said at Council meetings instead of misleading people who read his recent accusations. Dr. Gordon expressed concern about how the City is spending our tax dollars, i.e., buying a building for nearly $2 million dollars to enable a non-profit business to expand, and hiring new city employees to interfere with long established charitable volunteer organizations. Dr. Gordon discussed working to improve traffic conditions at intersections citywide, not just one location. Wouldn't all the residents and businesses be better served if the City worked harder to provide basic services than getting involved in finding new ways to spend our tax dollars? How about fixing our streets, sidewalks, potholes, alleys, trees, and maybe our utility and trash collection bills wouldn't get raised so high. Alfred, do you like the new charge on your electric bill for street lights? The street light near our home doesn't even light our driveway.

I say the city clean up the mess on South San Fernando, and audit the contractors which are doing work while disregarding public safety...oh wait, I work there, and drive it every day...I must have a conflict!
