Burbank smoking ban - letter to Council
Contributed by: Eric Michael-Cap on 10/26/2006

Dear Mayor and City Council Members,

Thank you for listening to my request that the City of Burbank consider adopting an ordinance that prohibits smoking on restaurant patios and at other public places and city events. I hope Burbank can join cities like Calabasas and Santa Monica who have passed similar bans that protect residents and their children's from the harmful effects of 2nd hand smoke. You have an opportunity to make a decision that will have a positive effect on the health and welfare of the majority of people in this City, non-smokers and smokers alike. No doubt small groups of smokers and business owners will voice strong opposition claiming you are infringing on their rights. I'm not a lawyer so I can't speak to any legal issues involved but I believe that if your vision of Burbank and it's Downtown area is for it to be a family-friendly place, this ordinance would further that objective. At the end of the day, I urge to do what is best for the majority of people on this issue and look forward to participating in the discussion once this item appears on the agenda. Thank You.

We need to outlaw leaf blowers. The dirt and bacteria on the ground blows all over you and is a serious health risk to people especially small children. If you use a leaf blower you go to jail and if you hire some gardner that uses one you both go to jail. All those blowers do is make serious pollution in the air and they use them while your eating outside and that has to stop.

I honestly believe that there are much greater issues facing this nation. At present I am afraid to even eat salad due to bacteria in salad. A smoker I can simply not sit next to. It would seem there are far greater issues.
