Credit union members go green
Contributed by: Alethia Calagias on 4/23/2008

Lockheed Federal Credit Union has presented another way to grow with the financial institution.

LFCU made a donation in April to ensure more than 500 trees are planted in a damaged forest, thanks to help from its members and the Arbor Day Foundation.

The credit union hosted a go-green promotion in March, offering members the opportunity to reduce paper clutter in favor of electronic statements.

"The campaign was a great way for the Credit Union to help members understand the benefits of electronic statements," said Andrea Carpenter, senior vice president of marketing for LFCU. "E-Statements are never lost or stolen in the mail, so they help to reduce the risk of identity theft. The credit union maintains two years' worth of statements online, so they are always just a click away."

LFCU made a donation to the Arbor Day Foundation on behalf of every member who made the switch to receive paperless statements.

Electronic statements also provide the benefit of receiving each monthly statement the same day it is ready. LFCU stores e-Statements online for up to two years, giving members access anytime, anywhere. As well as being good for the environment, e-Statements are convenient and secure.

Lockheed Federal Credit Union has more than 100,000 members and more than $2.6 billion in assets.

Chartered in 1937, LFCU offers members preferred rates on savings and loan accounts, surcharge-free access to 25,000 ATMs, and access to a nationwide network of branches. Today, LFCU is the largest financial institution headquartered in the San Fernando Valley.

LFCU recently received a five-star rating - the highest possible - from Bauer Financial, a source for unbiased, independent bank and credit union star ratings. The five-star rating validates that LFCU is safe, financially sound and operating well above its regulatory capital requirements.

LFCU operates branches in the San Fernando, San Gabriel, Santa Clarita and Antelope valleys, as well as eastern Ventura County. Membership is open to Southern California residents of more than 200 sponsor companies. Deposits in LFCU are federally insured by the National Credit Union Administration. LFCU is an equal housing lender.
