Lily Tomlin to visit Woodbury University
Contributed by: Janet McIntyre on 10/18/2007

Award-winning comedienne Lily Tomlin will talk about her work in television, on Broadway and on film during a Nov. 11 event at Woodbury University.

Tomlin also will receive the 2007 Julius Shulman Communication Award, presented annually to an individual - judged by Shulman and his committee - who thoroughly understands the essentials of objective and qualitative communication.

Shulman is a famed architectural photographer and long-time friend of the university.

A cocktail-and-buffet reception will begin at 6 p.m., with the program beginning at 7 p.m. at Woodbury University, 7500 Glenoaks Blvd., Burbank.

Cost is $50 per person. Proceeds benefit Woodbury University's Library Associates, a volunteer organization dedicated to improving library services.

One of America's foremost comediennes, Tomlin continues to venture across an ever-widening range of media, starring in television, theater, motion pictures, animation, and video.

From her birth in Detroit, Mich., and growing up in a working-class neighborhood, she went on to conquer both Broadway and Hollywood and even the airwaves in-between.

From "Laugh-In" to her many TV specials to "The West Wing" on television, from "Appearing Nitely" to "The Search for Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe" on Broadway, and from Robert Altman's "Nashville" to his last film "A Prairie Home Companion," Tomlin has left an indelible mark across all of these media.

Throughout her career, Tomlin has received numerous awards, including six Emmys, two Peabody Awards, two Tonys, a Grammy, and both the New York Film Critics and National Society of Film Critics voted her Best Supporting Actress in Robert Altman's "Nashville," for which she received an Academy Award nomination.

Tomlin received the Crystal Award from Women in Film for her extensive work in film. And in the fall of 2003, she was honored with the prestigious Mark Twain Prize for American Humor in Washington D.C. Tomlin's entire career in art, text, photos and videos can be found at www.lilytomlin.com.
