LOS ANGELES - The Armenian Bone Marrow Donor Registry (ABMDR) will be hosting its 6th annual "Match for Life" fund-raising banquet at 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 5, at the Glendale Hilton Hotel.
This year's banquet will honor ABMDR board members, Woman of the Year,
Catherine Pelley
, President at Glendale Memorial Hospital and Health Center, and Man of the Year,
Patrick Petre
, Administrator of Providence St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank.
The banquet, hosted by
Mark Geragos
, Esq. Chairman of the ABMDR, will also honor and recognize business and volunteers of the year.
"Our Match for Life banquet each year raises the needed funds to promote the registry's work to encourage Armenians in the community to donate and educates them on the importance of being a donor. Funds raised also help us reach out to those struck with life-threatening diseases and help them find hope in a genetic match," stated ABMDR President Dr.
Frieda Jordan
. "The invaluable support of community leaders such as Ms. Pelley and Mr. Petre help resonate the message of the registry, its work and the hope it promises."
Sponsorships are available on a variety of levels and all donations to ABMDR are tax deductible. Interested sponsors should call the ABMDR at (323) 663-3609.
The Armenian Bone Marrow Donor Registry is headquartered in Los Angeles with laboratory facilities in Yerevan, Armenia. The ABMDR is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to ensure that every Armenian struck with a life-threatening blood-related illness is able to find hope for long-term survival through the identification of a genetically suitable bone marrow match.
Since December 2000, through cross-national cooperation, the ABMDR has registered more than 12,000 donors, received and processed more than 780 search requests, identified 480 potential matches, and facilitated six bone marrow and stem cell transplants in Armenia, the United States, and Europe.
