Norman Coulson to receive leadership award

Norman Coulson, a Granada Hills resident and Chair of the Providence Saint Joseph/Holy Cross Board of Directors, is the recipient of the 2006 California Hospital Association's Leadership in Governance Award.

Leadership in Governance is one of the California Hospital Association's seven highest awards, and it recognizes a hospital or health system board trustee who shows an outstanding commitment to his community, provides exemplary service, and exhibits leadership and strategic planning and support for hospitals.

Coulson also serves on the Board of Trustees for the Providence Holy Cross Foundation, and he has been a supporter and contributor of Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills for 13 years.

"Norm has been a leader and a visionary for all of us at Providence Saint Joseph and Providence Holy Cross Medical Centers," said Arnold R. Schaffer, chief executive officer for Providence Health & Services Southern California Region. "He is committed to our not-for-profit, faith based mission of providing the best health care to all those living in the San Fernando and Santa Clarita Valleys. I can think of no one else more deserving of this award."

Coulson follows two other members of the Providence Saint Joseph/ Holy Cross Board of Directors who have received the CHA's Leadership in Governance Award. Al Ghirardelli received this honor in 2004 and Jack Wise was honored in 2003. Coulson will receive the award at the California Hospital Association's Board of Trustees' lunch on Dec. 14.
