Climbing Over 'Brick Walls' in Family History
Contributed by: Beth Uyehara on 5/9/2007

Creating Hope will be the topic of the talk by Israeli journalist and family-history researcher Schelly Talalay Dardashti at the Family History Writers Conference on June 10. The all-day conference for family history writers is part of the annual Jamboree sponsored by the Southern California Genealogical Society. It is being held this year at the Burbank Marriott Hotel and Convention Center opposite Bob Hope Airport.

Ms. Dardashti's talk will focus on how family history can be recovered, even when records appear lost forever. Her most recent article in the Jerusalem Post followed a reunion of cousins-Holocaust survivors who had not seen each other since 1942, and had not known the other had survived.

A native New Yorker, Ms. Dardashti is based in Tel Aviv, and writes Tracing the Tribe-the Jewish Genealogy Blog. From 1999 to 2005, she was the genealogy columnist for the Jerusalem Post. Her own personal research covers Spain, Belarus, Lithuania, Russia and Iran.

Ms. Dardashti will speak at the breakfast meeting leading off the writers conference. Other speakers at the event include Carolyn See, Judith Barrington, Cecilia Rasmussen, D.J. Fulford, Thomas Curwen, and Linda Lawrence Hunt. For more information, call the Southern California Genealogical Society at 818-843-7247 or log on to www.scgsgenealogy.com.
