Creating a World that Works for Everyone
On Sunday, Dec. 10th, the Unity-and-Diversity World Council hosted their ninth Peace Sunday with a Humanitarian Awards Ceremony at the Los Angeles Bahai' Center. Rev.
Leland Stewart
, founder of the council, said "The UDC began during International Cooperation Year 1965, which was developed by the General Assembly of the United Nations."
Rev. Leland Stewart and Dr.
Tahdi Blackstone
were emcees for the event that included speakers such as Dr.
Ananda Guruge
, Director of the International Academy of Buddhism and
Linda Groff
, Ph.D., Professor from California State University Dominguez Hills.
The event was attended by over one hundred eighty religious individuals and organizations.
Johnny Kumangai
, a 15 yr old Youth for Human Rights representative, said, "It was an educational experience for me. I had no idea there were that many religions."
The Church of Scientology and Youth for Human Rights received Humanitarian Awards at the event along with other awardees such as the Friends of the United Nations and the United Nations Association of Pasadena.
