Over the past few years many of us have become active recyclers when it comes to the CRV value of a soda can or plastic bottle. Maybe because we feel compelled to get our money back since we paid for the CRV at the time of purchase. You know that extra charge on your grocery receipt for each twelve pack of diet soda you bought. But what about those other items you have in your home or place of business that you touch each and every day - that you just discard in the garbage when you're finished with them. I'm talking about inkjet cartridges, fax cartridges and cell phones.
Did you know:
- Nearly a million ink cartridges are thrown away every day.
-Approximately 90% of these printing cartridges are recyclable but only 20%
are being recycled.
- Plastics used in inkjet cartridges can take over10 centuries (1,000 years) to
decompose.
- In the next seven years, if all the laser and inkjet cartridges are saved from
landfills, a bridge can be built from the Earth to the Moon - 223,000 miles!
It's the little things that we do which can make a big difference. Here's how you can help:
1. Collect empty inkjet, laser, fax cartridges, and also used cell phones from
home, relatives and friends.
2. Establish a recycling program for ink cartridges at your work.
3. Inform your child's school, sporting group or scout of the potential to earn
money by collecting empty ink cartridges and cell phones!
4. Notify your church and/or youth group office of this fund raising opportunity.
There are many benefits to recycling. Aside from the obvious, such as not dumping into our landfills and preserving more of the Earth's valuable resources - schools, churches, sporting groups and scouts can use the collections and recycling of empty ink cartridges and cell phones to generate significant dollars to their fundraising causes.
Since 2000,
Planet Green
(
www.planetgreeninc.com
) has been committed to providing inkjet and laser cartridge recycling programs right here in the San Fernando Valley.
Planet Green
is a full service recycling and remanufacturing provider of inkjet cartridges. Unlike many recycling depots,
Planet Green is a recycling center
who specializes in inspecting, cleaning, refilling and repackaging the recycled inkjet cartridge which you can obtain at a local retailer.
