Have breakfast with Shakesepeare when Fulton Entertainment presents the 1st Annual Shakespeare in the Park-ing Lot, beginning with Classics in the Park's production of the
Taming of the Shrew, one of Shakespeare's most clever comedies. The play, co-directed by Irene Silbert and Michael Jordan, runs Sunday mornings at 10:00 am, July 13 through August 17, at the Avery Schreiber Theater in nearby NoHo.
Taming of the Shrew is about a rich widow who must marry off her sharp-tongued, willful elder daughter, Katherine, before she can offer her younger daughter, Bianca, in marriage to one of her many suitors. Enter Petruchio, in search of a wife with a large dowry.
He engages Katherine in a battle of wits and eventually wins her hand in marriage. After they marry, Petruchio tries to "tame" his bold and stubborn wife and bring her into line with society's expectations. This romantic farce, is full of disguises and role playing, and deals with the themes of marriage and duty, reality and illusion, and compromise.
