Village Church in Burbank is transforming its courtyard into a first-century village marketplace to give local families an opportunity to step back in time and experience the world into which Jesus was born. Journey to Bethlehem features sets, period music, live animals, fully costumed characters and a live nativity. It is free and open to the public.
In this elaborate walk-through production, visitors are greeted by Roman soldiers and census takers and encouraged to interact with citizens of Bethlehem including a beggar, blacksmith, weaver, tailor, innkeeper, spice vendor, woodworker and baker. The spirit of the first Christmas is brought to life by the actors as well as the visitors.
"Producing this two day event is a real labor of love," commented Pastor
Wade Mikels
."Our volunteers work for months building sets, making costumes and planning the logistics. We don't charge admission because it is our gift to the entire community."
Journey to Bethlehem will take place Saturday, Dec. 16 and Sunday Dec. 17 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Village Church, 3216 W. Victory Blvd., Burbank. Parking available at Ralph Foy Park and the Burbank Northwest Branch Library with free shuttle will pick up. "A Night of Miracles" drama performance is at 6 and 7 p.m. For information call (818) 843-4883.
