The Latino Theater Company, producer of world-class theater productions in Los Angeles since 1985, in conjunction with the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels, offers a holiday gift to the Los Angeles community -
La Virgen de Guadalupe, Dios Inantzin
, a visually stunning and moving theatrical representation of the miraculous apparitions of the Virgin Mary to Saint
Juan Diego
in the hills of Tepeyac, Mexico in 1531.
This year marks the fifth that the Latino Theater Company presents this spectacular pageant play free of charge at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels, 555 W. Temple Street, on Dec. 7 and 8 at 7:30 p.m.
This will be the fifth consecutive year that the Latino Theater Company presents this inspirational theatrical event at the Cathedral, which is fast-becoming a new holiday tradition in the City of Angels. The two-night performance last year played to an audience of 6,000 people. Many of which were working class families that had never experienced a live theatrical performance prior to this event.
"The Latino Theater Company and the Cathedral of Our Lady of The Angels is delighted to offer this holiday gift to the people of Los Angeles", said
Jose Luis Valenzuela
, Latino Theater Company's Artistic Director and Professor of Theater at UCLA. "Our hope is to continue to offer this presentation free to the public for years to come."
This beautiful play, with indigenous Mexican dances and music performed in Spanish, appeals to many people regardless of race, language or religion, given its universal message of faith, love and perseverance. Renowned Mezzo Soprano Suzanna Guzman has agreed to once again sing the title role of La Virgen. This year's cast includes LTC members Sal Lopez as Juan Diego, Geoffrey Rivas and Lucy Rodriguez; guest artists Castulo Guerra, Pepe Serna and Dyana Ortelli and theatrical direction by Jose Luis Valenzuela. Musicians, Aztec dancers and a large community ensemble of children, youth and seniors complete the cast of over 100 members.
