Waiting for Lefty

opens Thursday, Oct. 26 in the Glendale
Community College Auditorium Mainstage Theatre.
Melissa Randel
is the director of the Theatre Arts Department production. Performances are at 8 p.m. Oct. 26-28 and Nov. 2-4 and 9-11.
The Sunday matinees are Oct. 29 and Nov. 5 and 12 at 2 p.m. Following the Nov. 9 performance, new theatre arts department faculty members Randel and
Jeanette Farr
will discuss the themes of the production and the life and times of Clifford Odets. "Waiting for Lefty," first staged in 1935, takes place during the Depression when there was a vast divide between the wealthy and the very poor. The stage is set with scenes of
Fred Astaire
and
Ginger Rogers
entertaining the elite, marathon dancers in a gymnasium continuing to dance while barely standing and a union hall, where taxi drivers and union bosses fight over a pending strike.
The cast includes
Frankie Pozos
of Hacienda Heights as "Joe," Ryan Robbins of Burbank as the play's antagonist "Harry Fatt" and Amanda Hall of Glendale as Joe's wife "Edna."
Harmik Thomasian
of Tujunga plays the taxi driver "Sid" and Mary Claire Garcia of Montrose is "Florrie," Sid's fiance. Andrew Wade of Pasadena portrays "Miller," Meagon Ligons of Glendale is the face of big business, "Fayette," Derenik Keshish of Glendale plays the
young Jewish doctor "Dr. Benjamin" and "Agate" the strike agitator is played by Jordan Grout of Los Angeles. Labor spy "Tom Clayton" is portrayed by Patrick St. John of Glendale, Christopher Everist is Florence's brother "Irv" and Dominic Ledesma of Pasadena plays the gunman.
Tickets may be reserved in advance or purchased at the box office before
each performance for $10 general, $6 students and seniors and $4 each for groups of 10 or more. Call (818) 240-1000, Ext. 5618 for reservations and information.
