The Friends of the North Hollywood Regional Library will sponsor another year of free first run films on the big screen at the comfortable and spacious North Hollywood Library Screening Room. Featuring a selection of award winning independent movies from around the world, this year's series begins with the highly acclaimed drama, ARRANGED, winner of the Best Film Award at both the Berkshire and Brooklyn International Film Festivals.
ARRANGED is a story of two young women, one Orthodox Jewish, the other a devout Muslim, who become friends while working at a Brooklyn public school. As each woman is faced with family pressures regarding arranged marriages, they find the stength to deal with their problems through their growing friendship. Called by one critic "A gem of a movie", ARRANGED is still playing at various art house theaters across the country. You can see it for free at the North Hollywood Library, 5211 Tujunga Avenue, on Sunday, May 4, 2008 at 2:00 PM. No reservations are necessary. To view a trailer for the film go to www.arrangedthemovie.com
The First Run Film Series will continue with monthly showings of movies that have won awards at major international film festivals, include Cannes, Sundance, Venice and many others. With no movie houses in the North Hollywood/Studio City area, this is your chance to catch up with some of the best of independent cinema.
