Future 'Rocket Boys' learn how 'Gas Works'
Contributed by: Louise Paziak on 4/4/2008

The Burbank Public Library's One City, One Book campaign has something for everybody.

While all of Burbank is reading the Homer H. Hickam Jr. memoir, Rocket Boys, the younger members of the community are experiencing their own version of the book's theme.

As a nod to the 2008 "Burbank READS" selection, Children's Services presented Mad Scienceandits program "Gas Works." Children learned all about the mysterious world of gasses and saw the launch of water bottle rockets.

Attending the event were several members of the John Muir Middle School Aviation Club. Each Wednesday, members of the club launch model rockets during their lunch break. These students were featured in Burbank's 2008 City Calendar.

Teacher and club sponsor Stacie Crowdther, herself an aviator, has a goal to instill the love of aviation in her students.

For those who missed the performance of Mad Science and "Gas Works," an encore presentation will be held at the Northwest Branch Library, 3323 W. Victory Blvd., on Thursday, April 17.
