On April 18, the Burbank Community YMCA formally announced that
Yvette Herrera
is the new president of its board of directors.
The annual meeting was held at the Burbank Community YMCA in the Ray Sence Room during a noon-time ceremony.
Also installed were newly elected Vice-Chair,
Don St. Clair
, who is vice president of marketing at Woodbury University; Secretary, Rev.
Greg Batson
of the First United Methodist Church; and Treasurer,
Jonathan Taylor
of Taylor-Aldrich Insurance.
Two new at-large board members were also inducted -
Dan Soderstrom
of Dilbeck Realtors and
Cynthia Endo
of Endo Communications.
Herrera is a 20-year Burbank resident and president of the HT Group, a marketing consulting firm. She has been on the board of directors since 2003. Prior to being elected president, Herrera chaired the marketing and communications committee for three years and also chaired the YMCA's annual support campaign in 2005.
Interim CEO
Theresa Zapata
said, "Yvette has worked closely with our out-going President
Vic Georgino
and our entire executive committee on our CEO search committee, our capital campaign and in developing our strategic plan. She also has marketing expertise and a fundraising background. With these skills, I have every confidence that under Yvette's leadership our YMCA will continue to be of great service to our members and community."
Of her new post, Herrera stated, "This is an exciting time for the Burbank Community YMCA and for me, personally. I believe that the Y effectively meets a growing need in our community. I'm impressed with how our Y is addressing the issue of childhood obesity, through its sports program, youth fitness center and a special intervention program offering customized nutrition counseling. I am proud to be a part of this organization and look forward to meeting the new challenges of the coming year."
