You may have wondered why real estate agents like me often talk about how much annual "production" we've done in terms of dollar figures, and how many properties we sell every year. Like most Realtors, I tend to forget that unless that information is put into context, it doesn't mean much to people outside of the industry.
Here's the bottom line: the more experienced the Realtor, the better qualified that person is to help you buy or sell a home. And if you're experiencing mortgage problems, the more likely that person can help you find a positive solution.
The truth is that the average Realtor in California closes only 6.7 transactions per year, and most have only been in the business for a few years. It takes a long time and a lot of perseverance and skill for a real estate agent to become truly seasoned and experienced. In the last few years, I've averaged around 200 transactions per year and my dollar production has been among the highest in the nation.
As nearly everyone - even those outside of the industry - knows, the current real estate market is pretty challenging. Sales are off and prices are down. For agents who've only been in the business for a few years and who've only completed a few dozen transactions, it's a new and frightening phenomenon.
But this market cycle for me is a little bit like "déjà vu all over again," to quote Yogi Berra. It isn't the first down market I've experienced, and it probably won't be the last. After all, I've been a Realtor in Burbank for nearly 30 years and hope to be here for many decades more.
One thing my experience has taught me is that knowing how to price homes correctly and understanding how to adjust marketing in a downward-trending market is crucial. Doing it wrong can cost people many thousands of dollars. This is a market where experience in an agent is very, very important.
This market has also lured many good people into awkward financial circumstances. Many of them feel uncomfortable and even a little embarrassed about it. If they need an ear to bend or someone to talk to, I want them to know, I'm here for them.
