"Celebrating Differences: Unexpected Gifts of Diversity" is the title of the fifth special education conference sponsored by the Foothill SELPA Community Advisory Committee.
The Foothill SELPA is comprised of special education students and their families from the Burbank, Glendale and La Canada unified school districts.
The meeting will provide information on many parental concerns including behavior management, mental health, recreation opportunities, transition to adult life and parenting skills.
Experts from the field will present information that will help parents and children with educational difficulties experience school success.
This year's keynote speaker - Norman Kunc, International trainer, consultant and author of "Ready, Willing and Disabled" - has spent the last 25 years working to ensure that people with disabilities are able to take their rightful place in schools, workplaces, and communities.
The conference will be held from 8:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, May 17, at John Burroughs High School, 1920 Clark Ave., Burbank.
An Information Faire, with booths staffed by local and regional support agencies, will be open from noon-2 p.m.
Registration is free. A $5 lunch deposit is refunded to each paid participant at check-in the day of the event.
Registration information is available by calling the Foothill SELPA office at 818- 246-5378 or at
