Petre named Man of the Year
Contributed by: angie valencia/valleynews.com   on 8/1/2007

Patrick Petre, outgoing Administrator of Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, was named Man of the Year by The Armenian Bone Marrow Donor Registry (ABMDR).

Petre will be honored along with other ABMDR board members at the organization's 6th annual "Match for Life" banquet on Aug. 5.

"Patrick was instrumental on the onset of the Registry in terms of providing resources for donor recruitment and the growth of the registry," said Fimi Mekhitarian, ABMDR West Coast Recruitment Officer. "He was very supportive of the objective and had great admiration for the organization."

Petre sits on the Registry's board of directors. He's been involved with the organization since 2002 when he was the Chief Operating Officer for Glendale Memorial Hospital and Health Center. The hospital was assisting with the start up and Petre helped the non-profit secure donations and introduce them to other potential sponsors.

"To be honored by the Donor Registry is sort of overwhelming," he said. "Like
most people, I would rather the attention be focused on the Donor Registry and the work of others, rather than me. But if it helps to bring more awareness and attention, then I am truly honored."

Mekhitarian said Petre was a great resource in the early years of the association and provided crucial guidance during the launch of the non-profit, which to date has recruited more than 12,000 donors.

"He's been named Man of the Year for his commitment. His trust and belief in the organization. For respecting our objective and being there for us," she said.

Petre said he will continue to be involved with the Registry as a personal donor and supporter after he leaves Providence on Aug. 3.

Dan Boyle, hospital spokesperson, said under Petre's leadership, Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center has realized dramatic improvements in operational performance, technology investment, employee and physician relationships, and service and infrastructure developments.

"Petre played an integral role in the 2005 opening of the new seven-story
Northeast Patient Care Tower and the 2004 opening Burbank Medical Plaza,
which includes the Providence Saint Joseph Breast Health Center and an
outpatient Imaging Center," he said.

"In addition, Petre has led in the development of a second medical office building that will include an outpatient surgery center, as well as in the construction of The Roy and Patricia Disney Cancer Center, which will be the largest comprehensive freestanding cancer center in the San Fernando Valley. Both the cancer center and the second medical office building are scheduled to open in 2008."
