Blog Entry 16 of 68 The Forgotten Sports
Basketball, softball, or volleyball - ever notice only the top 20 teams get covered? There just isn't enough print space to feature all teams. I have shot youth sporting event photos free of charge for over 15 years. Ask me about shooting your team and their next tournament; I will also write about it for all to read. During Winter 2006, I will be found at Olive Recreation Center, in Burbank - shooting ASA fall ball. RYTAC

Paper Nova hits Bova

This is the city: Burbank

Over 100,000 people live in the suburban jewel nestled in the east side of the San Fernando Valley. My name is RYTAC; I carry a camera (trust me, it's a lot heavier than a badge).

I was on paparazzi duty two nights after Valentine's Day; Lover's Lane was empty, so I decided to cruise through the west side of town. Celebrities have been known to hang out at Valley Park and my camera was ready for action.

Just after midnight, I drove down a residential side street (yeah, I was lost and everyone knows guys don't ask for directions) when I spotted what appeared to be hooded ninjas.

I quickly pulled over and parked my car because I knew there was a story here and I had the exclusive. I noticed the ninjas were using an SUV, parked four houses down, as their base. One by one they swiftly entered the SUV, then popped out the rear hatch with what appeared to be small white meteors in their hands. They approached the two-story Bova mansion and positioned themselves just out of view from the security cameras.

I lowered my window in order to hear the strange chant they were uttering just before they hurled the meteors. I made out the words, "Ninjas Rule!" ...or maybe "Indians Rule!" The meteors rose a short distance into the dark skies then came crashing down onto the ground, rolling out a white trail in the process.

This ballet of rising and falling white meteors went on for some time. I'm not sure if the ninjas heard the sound of my camera, but all of a sudden they retreated to the SUV and drove off. I was so sure I had a Pulitzer-Prize winning story that I opened my laptop in the car and began to download the pictures from the camera. I planned on quickly writing about this strange encounter and using an unsecured internet connection I had tapped into to send my story to the Daily News. Of course, if the Daily News rejects my story, I'll send it to some tabloid. After all, it's not every night you get to see ninjas throwing meteors in Burbank.

The names have been changed to protect the innocent (of course I don't know their names).
