Ten, nine, eight, seven...well, we are down to only four days before the wedding of my oldest daughter, and the stress meter seems to be rising for a lot of people. We have been able to check off as completed most of the pre-wedding list items. The florist is selected (Passion Flowers by Michele Rein); the wedding cake creator is preparing a masterpiece;
"Guitar" Dave Cook and
Cooper Bayliss of
The Others are finalizing the wedding and reception music;
Liz Costella took over making the name cards (cute seaside picture frames with the person's name on it) for the reception tables;
Beatriz Roam, maid of honor, tested different hair styles with the bride (mom was there to offer her opinion);
Pastor Erik Kirk confirmed his participation (or rather his fiancée,
Kim Barnum, did); a house cleaning service was hired to seriously clean the house; the cupboards and refrigerator were stocked; and family members were beginning to check-in at the Puerto Rican Compound.
The Mother of the Bride (MOB) picked up
Ma & Pa Chase in the early afternoon while the Father of the Bride (FOB - that would be me) handled shuttle service for the Bride To Be (BTB) and
Grandma Colón. By the time all airport trips were completed and everyone was ready to turn in, the clock was striking midnight. The "guests" found color-coded towels (one color per couple) in the bathrooms and chocolate mints on their pillows.
David Byers (long time friend and wedding videographer) will arrive tomorrow with his mother
Louise Byers (my second mom).
So you would think all we have to do now is get ready for the trip to Oxnard - wrong! It would seem my blog writings about the wedding caught the attention of
KCAL 9 news. We received a call from
KCAL 9 wondering if they could send a crew to follow the BTB as well as interview the MOB and FOB. We agreed to have the reporter come over on Thursday, Nov. 16 at 11 a.m. Then Thursday morning, the phone rang and the reporter from
KCAL 9 wanted to know if they could move up the appointment by one hour (yet another stressful moment?), to which we said yes. Of course, everyone in the house went into hyper drive in order to get showered, dressed, and ready.
The satellite news truck pulled up in front of the house around 9:30a.m. with
Carter Evans,
KCAL 9 news, and a cameraman. For the next hour, the BTB, MOB, and FOB were interviewed regarding the
Father of the Bride blog series. When the actual footage aired during the midday news hour, the family was glued to the TV set.
Well, it's time to load up the car and head out to the wedding hotel. Others will move up to Oxnard starting tomorrow. As of today, the wedding has generated 30 room reservations. I think we deserve a free room! The big day is now three days away. Next week,
Father of the Bride IV will conclude our story, but the journey itself is just beginning.
