Online voting to select the winner of the City of Palmdale's first youth video contest, "Shop Palmdale," will begin on Wednesday, Nov. 12 and run through Sunday, Nov. 16 at midnight. The contest is being sponsored in conjunction with the City's Partners for a Better Palmdale Program and Next Generation Youth Council.
"We received some very creative and energetic entries," said Communications Manager John Mlynar. "We're encouraging everyone to go to the City's Web site at www.CityofPalmdale.org, preview the video work of our local youth and choose your favorite. We will run the top five videos on the City's Channel 27."
"The videos highlight the importance of shopping locally, which keeps local sales tax dollars in the community," Mlynar said. Five finalists were selected from entries by the following participants: Leslie Espinosa, Ricardo Ibarra, Miguel Gomez and Carlos Mejia with Antelope Valley High School; Michelle Martinez, Leslie Estrada, Jonathan Lee, Daniel Kinison, Lucas Nemeth and Joshua Delrosario with Palmdale High School; Christian Garcia, Jonathan Laiva, Whitney Harvey and Jose Rangel with Knight High School; and Ben Andrews with Antelope Valley College.
Several prizes will be awarded at the City's "Shop Palmdale" Video Awards Presentation slated for Monday, Nov. 17 from 5 to 7 pm at the Larry Chimbole Cultural Center Ballroom. Prizes include a variety of gift certificates with the grand prize being an exclusive consultation with a television producer and tour of a major network studio.
For more information, call the City's communications department at 267-5115.
