Palmdale High School student
Alyshia Hidvegi
has begun a food, clothing and toy drive as part of her community service hours on behalf of the South Antelope Valley Emergency Services' (SAVES) holiday basket program.
Alyshia's holiday basket drive runs now through Dec 20. Interested persons may bring donations of non-perishable food items, clothing and unwrapped toys now through Dec. 20 to Wildflower Elementary School in Palmdale, 38136 35th St. East, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m., or to Pelona Vista Park now through Nov. 15 on Saturdays from 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m.
A donation station will be located at the park next to AYSO concession stand. Donations may also be dropped off from Oct. 25 through Dec. 20 at the Palmdale City Library, 700 East Palmdale Blvd., and the Palmdale Youth Library, 38510 Sierra Highway, on Mondays through Thursdays from 10 a.m.-8 p.m, Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., and Sundays from 1-5 p.m.
"I was looking for a good project for my community service hours for my Health Careers Academy," said Alyshia. "I chose SAVES because it is a program that really is helping the community."
"This is the first time we've had someone undertake a project like this on behalf of SAVES," said SAVES Coordinator
Barbara Shaw
. "We're excited to have Alyshia taking part in our holiday basket drive and we're all impressed by her drive and commitment to help those in our community who need our assistance."
The SAVES program started 25 years ago to offer assistance to low-income individuals and families who are experiencing a temporary emergency situation.
