Registration has started for city of Palmdale-sponsored Families in Action classes to be held in October.
Parents and teens may call 267-5665 to register.
"Becoming a Love and Logic Parent" will be offered on Thursday mornings from Oct. 2-Nov. 13. This class, which offers an approach to discipline that places the adult in control while placing the child in a thinking mode, is recommended for parents with children under 12.
"Working Out Conflicts" is a class that helps students learn how to defuse difficult situations, resolve conflict in a peaceful manner and stand up for themselves. It will be offered on Tuesday afternoons from Oct. 7-Nov. 4 for grades nine through 12, and on Wednesday afternoons from Oct. 8-Nov. 5 for gradesfive through eight.
"Parenting Skills for Parents with Strong-Willed or Out of Control Children" will be held on Wednesday evenings from Oct. 8-Dec. 17. Class topics include involving and empowering parents, bringing rapid positive behavioral change and reducing family conflict. The focus of this class is for parents of teenagers.
"Cooperative Parenting and Divorce" will be offered on Monday evenings from Oct. 27-Dec. 15. This course is designed to assist separated or divorced parents in reducing parental conflict and risk factors associated with the child's post-divorce adjustment.
"Strengthening Stepfamilies," a three-week mini-course for stepparents and their spouses, will be held on Thursday evenings from Oct. 30-Nov.13. This course is designed to tackle the traumas and opportunities of the fluid family structure including the remolding, reshaping and repopulating of family units through divorce and remarriage.
