‘Thursday Night on the Square’ features music, fun

City of Palmdale officials announced at a press conferencerecently the highlights of this year's Thursday Night on the Square events held eight Thursday nights July 3-Aug. 21.
The Thursday events begin at 5:30 p.m. and end at 9 p.m. in Poncitlán Square. Featured will be an open-air market, live entertainment, arts & crafts, tasty food and activities for children.
The schedule of events is as follows:
July 3 - "America the Great" - Celebrate the history of America! Make a liberty bell necklace, a Colonial three-corned hat and experience candle dipping in the Art & Activity Center. Learn your family history by creating a fun family tree. Enjoy the Stamp'n Station. Country music by Tombstone.
July 10 - "Mystery Madness" - Someone has stolen the SquareBees' honey! Kids can help solve the mystery by hunting for clues around the Square using a decoder and clue book they create. Be sure to watch Petunia's Puppet Palooza to see if your clues were right! Enjoy easel art at the Art & Activity Center. Rock music by Copperhill.
July 17 "Monster Mash" - Get ready to do the Monster Mash! Kids can create their own monster mask, feet and claws and join a parade around the Square. Enjoy easel art at the Activity Center. Latin rock music by Boulevard Knights.
July 24 "Passport to the World" - Tour around the world to different countries. Kids will make their own passport and can receive stamps for traveling to each country and participate in making Maracas, a Chinese Dragon Puppet, Egyptian Sugar Pyramid and can use their own handprint to be a part of the Hands on the Globe banner. Enjoy the Stamp'n Station. Oldies music by The Del Aires.
July 31 - "Fairy Tail Doggies" - Kids can live in the fantasy world of classic fairytales by making a Gingerbread house, planting a bean to grow your very own beanstalk this summer and creating a Fairy godmother wish box. Patrons of all ages can dress up their pooch as a favorite fairytale character and participate in the doggie parade. Prizes sponsored by Puppy Mama's Biscuit Bakery. Enjoy the Stamp'n Station. R&B music by
Lorena Mackey
& The Hi-Lites.
Aug. 9 - "Stars on the Square" - Experience what it's like to walk the red carpet and have your photo taken. Make your own movie director megaphone, a movie charm bracelet and a pair of glittered glamorous sunglasses. Enjoy easel art at the Activity Center. Music to be announced.
Aug. 14 - "Under the Big Top" - Join the circus and participate in the Ring Master Extravaganza event. Learn how to make a fun circus hat, create a popcorn snack bag and fill it up with kettlecorn. Popcorn sponsored by Couple of Nuts kettlecorn. Enjoy the Stamp'n Station. Swing music by Phat Cat.
Aug. 21- "Let the Games Begin" - Celebrate the Summer Olympics by creating an Olympic flag, designing your own medal, and choosing colored beads to create a country flag pin. Enjoy the Bubble Garden and the Stamp'n Station. R&B music by Bump City.
Featured free every week will be music in the gazebo until 9 p.m;. Barnes & Noble storytelling at 6:30 p.m.; Petunia's Puppet Palooza at 7:30 p.m., sponsored by High Desert Medical Group; face painting; The Game Garden, sponsored by Waste Management of Antelope Valley; Riki Tiki Balloon Fun; Children's Art & Activity Center; The SquareBees Buzz'n Boogie Time, and a bounce tent.
Pets are not permitted, except dogs on July 31 for the Fairy Tail Doggies event. Children 12 and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian and alcohol is not allowed.
