Improve your landscape and conserve water
Contributed by: City of Lancaster on 7/29/2008

Lancaster's Park, Recreation and Arts Department is offering a two-day Green Gardening and Landscape workshop from 10 a.m.-noon on Aug. 2 and 9.

The class will give participants insight into natural growing plants and landscape and gardening techniques that will help them develop a green thumb while utilizing best practices for our desert climate and water conservation.

Recognizing the rising costs of natural resources and the community responsibility to care for our earth and its resources, the city's recreation and engineering departments worked together to develop key concepts for the water conscious class.

"The best element of this class is that it not only encourages decorative landscape, but also caters to the uniqueness of our desert climate," said Interim Parks, Recreation and Arts Director Bob Greene.

Workshop instructor, D at Tien, has 10 years of relevant experience in desert gardening, plant and soil nutrition, landscape, and plant pest control and restoration. He has earned his bachelor's degree in botany from UC Riverside, and is working towards a PhD in plant science.

The course will be held at Lancaster City Park and costs $30 plus a materials fee.

Registrations are being accepted at the Parks, Recreation & Arts Counter at City Hall, located at 44933 Fern Ave.

Registrations can also be phoned in to 661-723-6074 and sent in via the Internet at www.cityoflancasterca.org.
