The City of Lancaster’s Web site goes green
Contributed by: City of Lancaster on 7/18/2008

LANCASTER - To help address increasing concerns regarding the future of our environment, the City has added a "Going Green" section to its Web site. The section is packed with useful information on green practices designed especially for residents of our desert climate.

"Our relationship with the environment is of vital importance, not only in solving our water woes today, but also in preserving our resources for the generations of tomorrow," said Mayor R. Rex Parris. "The City is engaged in a number of efforts to protect those priceless resources, and the new information on our Web site shows residents how they can take part in those efforts."

The new section includes information on what the City is doing to protect the environment and provides tips and brochures on how residents can save energy, water and money to help conserve our resources.

Water issues, including conservation, water recycling, and more, compose a significant portion of the Going Green section. Residents can also download the full-color brochure, "Landscape Plants for the California High Desert," to learn which shrubs, flowers, trees and other types of plants thrive naturally in our climate. These plants, which require little maintenance once established, also fit gracefully into the beautiful portrait of our desert landscape.

Other topics addressed include saving energy at home as well as at the office, information on using public transportation, the City's use of alternative fuel vehicles, and where and how to recycle in the Antelope Valley. All the information can be found under the "About Lancaster" tab on the City's Web site, www.cityoflancasterca.org.

"We are providing extensive information on going green because this is an issue that concerns us all," said Parris. "Generations will come and go, but our environment is the one thing we will all have to share permanently. I urge all citizens to do their part to protect the environment. Even the smallest changes, when made by an entire community, have an incredible impact."
