Representatives from several water agencies and other local agencies worked closely to create an Integrated Regional Water Management Plan for the Antelope Valley (Water Plan) to, among other things, satisfy state requirements for applying for grant funding under propositions 50, 84 and 1E .
The draft Water Plan was released for public review and comment on July 2. The Plan describes goals for the Antelope Valley including increasing water supply and reliability, improving water quality, promoting efficient use of water, protecting the environment, increasing open space and habitat, and encouraging wise land use planning for growth that supports the values of the region.
The planning group met frequently during the past year to reach broad agreement on priorities, projects and implementation of the Water Plan. One recommendation made by the planning group within the draft plan is to explore the possibility of forming a structure to focus on implementing the water plan and to help address other regional water-related challenges.
The planning group will discuss the potential for forming a new structure during the next Antelope Valley Integrated Water Management Plan stakeholder meeting on Wednesday, August 8 from 9-11:3-0 a.m. at Lancaster City Hall.
Topics to be discussed during the meeting include: presentations by the Santa Ana Watershed Project Authority (SAWPA) and the Las Vegas Wash Coordination Committee addressing similar regional challenges.
Residents interested in learning more about this topic, or who would like to participate in the discussion, are invited to attend. A copy of the draft Antelope Valley Water Plan can be viewed at www.
