The Palmdale Playhouse will celebrate its 14th birthday with a musical concert tribute to
Buddy Holly
,
Ritchie Valens
and The Big Bopper at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13 .
Tickets are $30.
The Playhouse is located at 38334 10th St. East in Palmdale.
"'John Mueller's Winter Dance Party' is a live, authentic recreation of the final tour of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper," said Playhouse Marketing Manager
David A. Smith
. "The three popular rock n' roll artists were killed in a plane crash while touring with their 'Winter Dance Party' on Feb. 3, 1959, and that date has been referred to as 'the day the music died."
This high voltage concert features
John Mueller
, acclaimed former star of the London/Broadway hit musical "Buddy...the Buddy Holly Story,"
Ray Anthony
, renowned star of Las Vegas' "'Legends of Rock and Roll" as Ritchie Valens and
Jay P. Richardson Jr.
, the actual son of the Big Bopper himself.
Audiences can expect to hear such classic songs as "Peggy Sue," "That'll Be The Day," "La Bamba," "Chantilly Lace" and many others. The show has won universal praise nationwide from critics including
Dick Clark
, The Rock n Roll Hall of Fame,
Maria Elena Holly
, widow of Buddy Holly, and
Irma Valens
, sister of Ritchie Valens.
The 350-seat Palmdale Playhouse has a limited number of seats available for this concert on a first come first served basis.
Patrons are strongly encouraged to order tickets early. Audience members may also participate in the "Best 50's Costume Contest" for a chance to win tickets to upcoming Palmdale Playhouse shows.
"If you weren't there then, you gotta be here now!" said Cultural Arts/Theatre Manager
Dea McAllister
. "This one will sell out very quickly and we're excited about kicking off our 14th season with this authentic recreation of that amazing concert tour."
The prestigious Medici Award will also be presented prior to the concert. The award is traditionally given to a member of the community who has shown outstanding support of the arts in general and specifically the Palmdale Playhouse.
This year's recipient is author, director, producer and long-time friend of the Playhouse,
Andrew J. Fenady.
Tickets for upcoming events may be purchased 24 hours a day on the Playhouse Web site at
