The Palmdale City Library has chosen "Small Favor: a Novel of the Dresden Files" by
Jim Butcher
as its "Featured Book of the Month" for November.
"'Small Favor' is the newest novel in the New York Times bestselling Dresden Files series," said Librarian
Debbie Melin
of the Palmdale City Library. "The Dresden Files are set in an 'alternate' Chicago, where magic is real, but only a few people actually believe in it. It's a first-person tale told by an irascible wizard named Harry Dresden, who regularly gives the magical establishment -and the police - indigestion.
"No one has tried to kill Harry Dresden for almost a year. His life finally seems to be calming down," explained Melin. "But an old bargain has placed Harry in debt to Mab, monarch of the Winter Court of the Sidhe, the Queen of Air and Darkness, and she's calling in her marker. It's a small favor he can't refuse, one that traps Harry between a nightmarish foe and an equally deadly ally, and one that strains his skills and loyalties to their very limits."
Other titles in the Dresden Files series are also available at the Palmdale City Library, including "Storm Front," "Fool Moon," "Grave Peril," "Summer Knight," "Death Masks," "Blood Rites," "Dead Beat," "Proven Guilty." The newest installment in the series, "Turn Coat," will be published next year."
"Small Favor" readers are encouraged to write their own reviews of the book and add them to the catalog on the library's Web site at
www.cityofpalmdale.org/library
. "To write a review, simply visit the Web site, select the book from the catalog and look for the button that says 'Add a Review,'" Melin said.
