The Palmdale City Library's Mystery Book Discussion Group "Mystery, Murder and Mayhem" will discuss the book "Missing Joseph" by
Elizabeth George
at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 13, at the Palmdale City Library, 700 East Palmdale Blvd.
The event is free and open to anyone interested in mystery novels.
"This group provides a wonderful opportunity to talk about the mystery novels you love with other mystery fans," said librarian
Chice Davison
of the Palmdale City Library.
"In 'Missing Joseph,' Deborah and Simon St. James have taken a holiday in the winter landscape of Lancastershire, hoping to heal the growing rift in their marriage," Davison said. "But in the barren countryside awaits bleak news: the vicar of Wimslough, the man they had come to see, is dead-a victim of accidental poisoning."
Unsatisfied with the inquest ruling and unsettled by the close association between the investigating constable and the woman who served the deadly meal, Simon calls in his old friend Detective Inspector Thomas Lynley.
Probing relationships between lovers and between parents and children Thomas traces the vicar's death back through London to a long-ago suicide near Truro.
"Author Elizabeth George sustains the suspense in this deftly plotted, highly atmospheric novel," Davison said. "Peeling away layer after layer of personal history to reveal the torment of a fugitive spirit, 'Missing Joseph' is award-winning author George's greatest achievement."
The discussion also provides disabled access with 72 hours' notice. To request special aids for the disabled or for more information, please call the Palmdale City Library at 661-267-5600 or TDD 267-5167.
