The Palmdale City Library will present "Painting with Words," a poetry, lyrics and open-mic event at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 29, at the Palmdale Playhouse, 38334 10th St. E.
The event is free. Open mic poetry reading is open to anyone over 16 years of age. There will be a five-minute reading limit on a first-come, first-served basis.
Open-mic sign up will begin at 6:15 p.m. Use of inappropriate language will not be accepted.
The event will begin with a performance by Antelope Valley resident
Joan Enguita
, an accomplished singer/songwriter who works in the modern folk tradition, as well as being a poet. She will perform some of her original songs from her "Kiss Me Awake" and "Two Suitcases" CDs and discuss the differences between songwriting and poetry.
The open-mic poetry reading will take place from 7 to 7:50 p.m.
From 8 to 9:15 p.m., author and instructor
Suzanne Lummis
will take the stage. Lummis is the founding director of the Los Angeles Poetry Festival, which produced eight Citywide events from 1989 to 2003, and now produces and promotes individual poetry events with local and international poets. She is also the editor of the idiosyncratic Web magazine Speechless.
