AV Hospital Election Facts
I am a retired Fire Department Paramedic and I am running a campaign to get elected to the Antelope Valley Hospital Board of Directors. I have been a resident of Leona Valley for over 18 years and a long time resident of the Antelope Valley since 1953. I attended Sunnydale Elementary school when it first opened and attended Park View Middle school when it was a Kindergarten through eight grade elementary school. I atteneded AV High and graduated from Birmingham High School in Van Nuys. When elected to the hospital board I will bring the community representation to a board that has been corrupt and devisive for over 20 years. I have plans to review and audit several different departments in order to bring more cost effective operations back into the hosptial in order to improve the hospitals bottom line.

AV Hospital a political quagmire

The current Board of Directors of AV Hospital is a virtual disaster waiting to happen.

With three publicly elected officials on the board who are employed by High Desert Medical Group, it presents a strong overtone of conflict of interest when votes are cast which can influence administrave decisions both at AV Hospital and High Desert Medical Group.

In this current election, HDMG is strongly supporting their lead candidate, Don Parazo.. In his first election to the board in 2002, HDMG contributed over $220,000 dollars to his campaign. His final campaign filing indicated over $300,000 in contributions.

It is quite apparent there is a repeat of this same financial support in his re-election bid, signified by the littering of thousands of lawn signs across the Antelope Valley, and the blatant use of local public elected City Councilmen offering their voices to recordings blasting us in the ear on the phone.

Even the local Republican Christian George Runner is putting his two cents worth into the campaign. What will it take to buy a seat on the Antelope Valley Hospital Board of Directors this year?

Perhaps $500,000 will be the price tag, and no doubt High Desert Medical Group will be footing the bill yet again. In four years on the Board Don Parazo has done nothing to improve patient care, has alieanated hospital employees by voting against their efforts to organize with the SEIU-UHW, and as Chairman of the Pension Advisory Committee strongly suggested to abolish the employees Defined Pension Plan, and has also let it become a $20 million dollar under funded liability.

If this was a private corporation like the Airlines, the Federal Government would have to investigate the hospital for misconduct.

As an employee of the hospital I can say I agree completely with Mr. Berger's comments. We have continually objected to our supervisors and our Board of directors about our pension, and all we get is rhetoric from our ceo and the board. I am voting for Mr. Berger and hope the community will feel the same way. Politics with special interests are now controlling our jobs, and I for one want a change.
